Phillip Schofield opens up about his 'feud' with co-host Holly Willoughby

Phillip Schofield has rubbished claims he and his This Morning co-host Holly Willoughby were ever in a feud, claiming they were "closer than ever".

Phil was appearing on Lorraine with Lorraine Kelly to talk about his new book, which documents his near-40 years on TV, life stories and how he battled with his feelings ahead of coming out.

The 58-year-old was quizzed by Lorraine about his 'feud' with Holly, which dominated headlines towards the end of 2019.

In the clip above, Phil can be smiling and laughing after completely rubbishing the claims he and Holly were ever at odds with each other.

"We were closer than ever", said Phil, revealing Holly was his "rock" after already coming out to her:

"I'd told her, so she was helping me through, so I had a rock at home with Steph and a rock here with Holly.

"The trouble with that is, that just made things worse, when you're seeing a guy in the papers you don't recognise.

"That was worse because it was on top of everything else."

Earlier in the show, Lorraine revealed she and "intuitive" Holly were extremely worried about Phil's extreme weightloss at the end of last year.

Phil told Lorraine that during the later weeks of 2019, he felt like he was "picking" his way thorough to find the right way to reveal his true sexuality, and consequently lost his appetite:

"It was the toughest time ever. When you're going through something like that and you're trying to pick your way through, and I say in there (the book), it's not in my nature to hurt people.

"I was trying to find my way through, what would I do, I talked about the loops, the loops in your head, 'You have to do this, you have to do this... you can't do this, because if you do this look at the consequences, yeah, but you have to, because you're getting sicker and sicker by worrying about it.

"You're going around and around and around, and then I couldn't eat, then I couldn't sleep."

Phil then revealed it was a mental break which stopped him from turning up from work one day that helped him move forward to eventually open up and come out to the public on This Morning earlier in 2020.

Lorraine returns at 9am every weekday morning on ITV.
