Phillip Schofield moved as Brian Cox says he's 'proud' of him for coming out as gay

This Morning host Phillip Schofield was almost in tears on Monday, as guest Brian Cox told him he was "proud" of him for coming out as gay on the show earlier this month.

Holly Willoughby's co-host spoke on This Morning after releasing a statement on Instagram , revealing he had been "coming to terms with" being gay.

Viewers heaped praise on the telly host at the time, as he spoke of the support from his wife Steph and their two daughters, as well as close friend Holly.

Phillip had decided to go on the show and talk on-air with Holly about his sexuality, after hiding it began to take a toll on his mental health.

On the show on Monday, actor Brian Cox went on to discuss his hit HBO series Succession.

As the interview came to an end, Brian took the moment to applaud the presenter.

It's then that he left Phil very moved, as he told him he was "proud" after seeing the interview.

Praising his decision to speak out on the show, Brian said: "Well done. Really, well done.

"I was very proud of what you did, I thought it was a remarkable thing. Well done."

Phillip appeared taken aback by the praise, as he thanked the acting legend for his words.

He told him: "Thank you, you're gonna make me cry."

Holly comforted her friend as they took the show to an advert break, before she herself thanked Brian.

Phillip was then shown telling Brian: "Thank you, no it's fine. I appreciate it very much."

Brian appeared to apologise for his comments, with Phillip telling him they were "appreciated".

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
