Phillip Schofield left regretting rant at 'busy' Spin to Win caller with tragic reason for delay

This Morning host Phillip Schofield was left saddened and regretting his harsh words after ranting at the camera about a Spin to Win caller called Joe who told him and co-star Holly Willoughby to ring him back later.

What they and viewers at home didn't realise is that the reason Joe had to hang up is that he needed to help his wife who suffers with motor neurone disease.

As they do every day, Phillip and Holly presided over a round of the ITV show's daily game where viewers have the chance to play for big cash prizes, holidays and a This Morning goody bag if, they firstly give the correct phrase and then pick either the wheel or the balls to be lucky with.

While the game is often blighted by people not answering the phone, saying 'hello' instead of answering with the pass phrase or saying the wrong one, someone telling Phillip and Holly they were too busy to play has never happened...until Wednesday that is.

The first caller dialled was Joe but, after he answered the phone correctly by shouting "yabba dabba do!" down the line, he told the presenters: "listen, can you call me back in two minutes please...thank you," forcing Phillip to swiftly reply: "no, no we can't! Joe!"

The line then went dead as Holly exclaimed: "is he joking?"

Phillip then launched into a rant at the camera, shouting: "what the hell is that? What the hell is that?"

"What are we supposed to do for two minutes? Joe, it's network ITV waiting for you!"

Holly then asked Phillip: "what did he say, what did he say?" and after he told her he wanted them to ring him back in two minutes, she replied: "maybe he's on the loo."

Having none of it, Phillip told her: "well you can still play the game if you're on the toilet!"

The presenting pair cut to a competition and then rang Joe back, after Phillip moaned about cameras being out of position and it all being "Joe's fault."

Phillip told him: "when we called you, you said call back in two minutes.

"We are nothing but compliant, we've done it for you Joe. What the hell was that about?!"

After once again giving the right phrase, Joe apologised and explained that he was dealing with his wife who's got motor neurone disease.

Instantly regretting his tirade, Phillip replied: "then that is the best excuse in the world. Is she ok now?" to which Joe replied: "yes, the nurses have just come to help me."

Joe ended up winning £1000, just missing out on the £3000 jackpot and viewers were quick to react.

One tweeted: "My heart just melted for Joe, so glad you phoned him back," and another tweeted: "bless Joe, glad he made his priorities clear and made sure his wife was okay but gutted he didn’t win the jackpot!"
