Phillip Schofield left grimacing after dipping his finger into 'rank' spice live on air

Phillip Schofield admitted to making a "bad move" as he hosted This Morning on Wednesday.

The dad-of-two and co-host Holly Willoughby welcomed chef Nisha Katona onto the ITV show via video link to learn how to make a vegan curry.

Nisha was keen to introduce Holly and Phil to an Indian spice called Asafoetida - and made sure that the TV duo had some in the studio to smell.

As Nisha asked them: "Can you smell how foul and rank it is?" Holly replied that she thought it smelled like onion ring crisps.

Phillip, 58, was then seen sticking his finger into the small bowl of yellow spice and then popped his finger in his mouth.

However, it seems he soon regretted doing so as he admitted to Nisha: "It’s a really bad idea to dip your finger in Asafoetida!

"It’s a bad move, it’s incredibly bitter," the TV presenter added as Holly grinned beside him.

However, it didn't put Phillip off from using it in his own cooking as he asked Nisha where he could buy some and described the curry she had made as "utterly beautiful" and "gorgeous".

Phillip's comments came after he admitted to viewers that Holly, 40, had ordered "a cup of tea in advance" after realising that another chef in the studio would be making Creme Egg cupcakes.

The mum-of-three looked absolutely delighted when she realised they would have the chance to taste the Easter treats later on in the show.

*This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
