Phillip Schofield laughs as he's caught using his phone live on This Morning: 'I was working!'

Phillip Schofield was caught using his phone on-air after a technical blunder meant he was on-screen a little earlier than expected.

Schofield burst out laughing as he admitted he’d been preparing an Instagram post about how to get tickets to his game show 5 Gold Rings when a video link to Alison Hammond cut out, throwing the live camera back to him and Holly Willoughby.

“I was on my phone!” he said as Willoughby joked that he “wasn’t allowed to enter the competition” Hammond had been promoting.

After Schofield explained what he had been up to on social media, Willoughby defended him by saying he was “technically working,” despite his lapse in attention to the autocue.

Schofield agreed: “I was working. I was actually working.”

Monday’s show saw Schofield attempting to get all-important Line of Duty spoilers out of actress Rochenda Sandall ahead of the series finale this weekend.

Schofield asked what every single fan is thinking when he quizzed the actress on whether or not we would get to find out who H is on Sunday night.

Sandall remained tight-lipped on the mysterious figure’s true identity – even hinting that we may not even find out in the upcoming 90 minutes.

“It will certainly have some form of conclusion, but as I’m sure you’re all aware, there’s still another series to go… and there’s lots of details…,” she said.

“I can’t tell you that [who H is]! Come on!”

This Morning is on ITV, weekdays at 10.30am
