Phillip Schofield laughs as he makes 'genius' dig at Piers Morgan on This Morning

Phillip Schofield made himself laugh when he made a 'genius' joke about Piers Morgan.

The presenter was back at the helm of This Morning on Tuesday alongside his co-host Holly Willoughby.

After discussing the latest news headlines during This Morning's View, the pair began sharing topical Christmas cracker jokes with regular guests Vanessa Feltz and Gyles Brandreth.

Phillip first joked:" Why is Christmas dinner vegan this year? Because Turkey's on the red list."

Gyles then came back with another, saying: "Why did Rudolph's nose have to self-isolate? It failed the lateral glow test."

But Phillip, 59, then brought the jokes a bit closer to home when he asked: "What’s Piers Morgan’s favourite Christmas song?"

Singing in response, he added: "Walking off on Air" to the tune of the classic festive track, Walking in the Air.

The presenter giggled at his own joke while Vanessa shouted: "Oooo," while putting her hands to her face.

"Should we end on that one?" Holly, 40, asked. "I think we’ve peaked."

She then smiled and laughed: "Morning Piers!"

And This Morning viewers saw the funny side.

"What is @piersmorgan favourite Christmas song? Walking off on air. First Christmas cracker joke that actually made me chuckle! @thismorning #ThisMorning #christmascrackerjoke," @ChaoticandCurvy said.

Piers Morgan famously walked off the Good Morning Britain set earlier this year after clashing with the show's weatherman, Alex Beresford.

The former host of the ITV show was embroiled in the heated debate back in March after he refused to believe claims from Meghan Markle's during her tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey.

His rant about Meghan's comments received the most complaints to Ofcom in a decade - with more than 57,000 people lodging a complaint.

However, Ofcom said in September that GMB was not in breach of the broadcasting code over Piers' comments about the Duchess of Sussex’s interview with Oprah.
