Phillip Schofield has voiced his delight after being confirmed as one of the hosts for ITV’s Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Celebration.

The specially commissioned live event to mark Queen Elizabeth II’s 70-year reign will take place on May 15 from the private grounds of Windsor Castle, including 1300 performers and 500 horses.

The popular This Morning presenter will lead proceedings along with ITV News at Ten’s Julie Etchingham.

The pair are no strangers to royal events, having previously hosted coverage of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge‘s wedding in 2011.

The pair were invited back in 2012 for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

Asked how he felt about being a part of this particular historic event, he said: “Every royal event I’ve had the fortune of being a part of has been a huge privilege, and Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee is no exception.

“I’m really looking forward to bringing this celebration of The Queen’s 70 years of service live to the nation.

“What a milestone - it’s an honour to be involved and to be asked back following the Diamond Jubilee.

"Celebrating the 70-year reign of a British monarch has never happened before, so it feels incredible that we are involved in a key part of history that the British public will look back on for years to come.

"The fact the Queen acceded the throne when she was only 25 years old really is astonishing. It’s a joy to be involved."

Drawn on what viewers could expect, he enthused: "There’s something for everybody. Musical performances from Keala Settle, Gregory Porter, Katherine Jenkins, the Commonwealth partaking in a huge spectacle and of course, we’ll be taken on a journey through history as told by some brilliant A-list names such as Dame Helen Mirren and Tom Cruise.

"Myself and Julie will be guiding the nation through the sequence of events, and we’ll get to interview some of the biggest names attached to the show too."

He was optimistic the Queen would enjoy the offering too.

He added: "I hope she’ll enjoy the event from start to finish - there is so much packed in the two-and-a-half-hour spectacle that Julie and I will be gasping to take a breath!

"I hope she’ll feel touched at the presence of so many people from far and wide coming together in unity to celebrate for her."
