Phillip Schofield 'heartbroken' by the death of his former colleague

Phillip Schofield has shared his heartbreak over the death of a 'wonderful' former colleague.

The 58-year-old This Morning host paid tribute to musical director Kate Young on his social media.

Phillip worked with Kate in his Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat days in the nineties.

The presenter, from Oldham, opened up on Twitter following the sad news.

"Heartbroken to hear of the passing of Kate Young

@katarinageo who was one of my musical directors during my Joseph years," he wrote.

"Kind, funny, so talented, wonderfully bonkers and totally delightful. So sad. All my love to her family."

Phillip's followers then came forward to pay their own tributes to Kate.

"I was in the Joseph choir for the Edinburgh performances in the early 90’s," one fan told him.

"Kate was fantastic with us. Very sad x"

Another recalled: "I was in the kids choir in Manchester and was devastated you were not Joseph."

He took over the role from Jason Donovan (Daily Mirror)

"Amazing Kate arranged for me to meet you at Edinburgh Playhouse. She was a brilliant woman, I have fantastic memories of her."

And another tweeted: "RIP Kate. I had the pleasure of watching you conduct on a teeny monitor at the Palladium whilst calling the cues on Joseph.

"Happy memories."

Former Broom Cupboard and Going Live! presenter Phillip played Joseph in the Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber biblical musical from 1991 until 1997.

He took over the West End role from former Neighbours heartthrob and singing superstar Jason Donovan.

Phillip then took on the main role in Doctor Dolittle from 1998 to 1999.

He has since presented the ITV chat show This Morning from 2002 and Dancing On Ice since 2006, as well as the prime time game show The Cube.
