Phillip Schofield says he and wife Stephanie have not talked about divorce since he revealed to her that he was gay.
This Morning host Phil, 58, said of their relationship: “We’re picking our way through. It’s a work in progress.”
The dad-of-two, married for 27 years, came out publicly February.
But he said: “I’m still married to Steph. With divorce… we’ve not discussed that at all.”
And he said he had to “reconcile” himself to the pain she had gone through.
He told Chris Evans’ podcast How to Wow: “It’s not in my nature to hurt people.
"How is it possible to come out and not hurt your wife? It isn’t. My greatest concern is her.”
In his statement read out by This Morning co-host Holly Willoughby, he said of Steph: “I love her so much. She’s the kindest soul I’ve ever met.”
Phil, worth £9million, has applied to convert a garage at their home in Henley, Oxon, into a bachelor pad.
In his autobiography, he hit out at suggestions he lied to Steph, saying: “I didn’t know I was gay when I married Steph. If I had, I wouldn’t have got married.”
“When things got really dark, [Steph] reminded me how much they all loved me and that there was nothing that the four of us couldn’t cope with.”
