Phillip Schofield fights back tears over This Morning guest's comments about him coming out

Phillip Schofield was left visibly moved on Monday's This Morning when a studio guest made comment about his very public coming out.

It's been nearly three weeks since Phillip revealed he was gay, firstly with a candid post on his Instagram and then in a touching interview with close friend Holly Willoughby live on This Morning.

His announcement prompted a huge number of well wishes from many of his colleagues, celebrity friends and many fans and, appearing on This Morning today, actor Brian Cox paused his interview to praise Phillip.

Succession actor Brian told the famous presenter: "By the way, I wanted to say to you, well done. For what you did. ‘I was very proud of what you did, I thought it as a remarkable thing."

An emotional Phil replied: ‘Thank you. You’ll make me cry. Thank you.’

Viewers were quick to praise Brian for the gesture, with one tweeting: "What a lovely thing to say to Scofe on #ThisMorning by the utterly class Brian Cox," and another reacting to his comments by posting: "loving what brian cox said to @Schofe lovely comment."

Having last posted on social media on the day of his very public coming out - Friday, February 7 - Phillip returned to Snapchat last week with a short but poignant message for well-wishers.

On his story he posted: "I may not have been posting, but I've been reading your incredible messages of support. You have taken #bekind to the best level on here," adding a giant red heart underneath his post.
