Phillip Schofield fights back tears as he accepts special LGBT Award after coming out aged 57

Phillip Schofield fought back tears as he accepted a special award ahead of the LGBT Awards on Friday night.

The This Morning presenter, who came out last year with the support of his wife and daughters, delivered an emotional video message due to being unable to attend the star-studded party in person.

In 2020, the 59-year-old announced that he was gay during a live episode of the ITV show, The Mirror reports.

In the acceptance video for his LGBT Award, Phil began: "Wow. This is a biggie. What a proud moment for me personally.

"I've never won any award individually. Any award you win as a team that's there propping you up and definitely that's the case with this one."

The star continued: "I had the most extraordinary people that helped me pack the parachute before the jump. Friends and family, loved ones and then there were an enormous amount of rainbow arms outstretched to catch me when I reached the bottom of my jump."

The Dancing on Ice presenter also said he was overwhelmed by the love and support he has received from the LGBTQ+ community since coming out as a gay man in 2020.
