Phillip Schofield explains Holly Willoughby's absence with The Masked Singer theory

Holly Willoughby has been missing from This Morning following the Christmas break.

The ITV host has been replaced with Rochelle Humes who has been standing in alongside Phillip Schofield this week.

On Monday's show Phillip explained Holly was spending "a couple of extra days with the family" but on Tuesday's instalment he decided to tease viewers with an alternative reason.

"She's just about to wrap up her filming commitments with The Masked Singer, so she'll be back tomorrow," Phillip said.

Adding: "Badger, who'd have thought. I guessed it right from the word go. Shouldn't have said it but there you go."

Shocked, co-host Rochelle pointed at Phillip and said: "You're so naughty".

The presenter also referred to Holly as "the Badger" later on in the show when he said she was watching This Morning at home.

Phillip appeared to be joking, however, as he later confirmed Holly would be back for Wednesday's episode.

He told ITV viewers: "She's dealing with her childcare issues at the moment and will be back tomorrow."

The Masked Singer is a series that sees celebrities sing and conceal their identities as they attempt to stump viewers and the panel alike.
