Phillip Schofield declares Dry January over because of lockdown

Phillip Schofield declared his Dry January over after lockdown was announced.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson declared a new national lockdown at 8pm on Monday night.

And five minutes later This Morning presenter Phillip decided his alcohol-free January pledge was done.

On his Instagram stories he shared a jokey screenshot of an iPhone alarm set to 8.05pm with the words 'THE END OF DRY JANUARY.'

The 58-year-old wine connoisseur addressed the matter to This Morning viewers tuning in on Tuesday morning.

"Not the best Tuesday to wake up to after the Prime Minister announced a new national lockdown last night," he said.

"Hardly a great surprise when that happened."

He added: "That was dry January. Five past eight, straight off the wagon."

Co-host Rochelle Humes told him: "I saw your Insta story."

And Phillip, who has his own wine range and collaborated with the Craft Gin Club at Christmas to make Schofe's Christmas Gin, replied drily: "Did you?"

One This Morning fan tweeted: "I think the whole 'on second thoughts, not doing dry January' was on a lot of people Insta stories #thismorning."

The sentiment was shared by former I'm A Celebrity winner Vicky Pattison who posted a photo of a table full of treats.

She wrote: "If bozzas is about to tell us that we’re going back into another nationwide lockdown, after my holiday to The Maldives went up the swanny, I am living like this for the foreseeable... "No dry jan, no veganuary, just good old fashioned refined sugars and Henry the eighth style excess and loads of feel good films.

"WHO’S WITH ME??!"

She added: "Seriously though my lovelies, whatever happens tonight, however frustrating it might be, just know that we will get through it, together, as we have before.... and with plenty of gin."
