Phillip Schofield awkwardly swerves Queuegate question after This Morning's NTA win

Phillip Schofield awkwardly dodged a direct question over his now infamous Queuegate scandal minutes after appearing on stage at the National Television Awards.

Emotions were running high with the ITV stars as Phil and his co-star and best pal Holly Willoughby appeared overwhelmed to pick up the Best Daytime gong this year.

The duo fought off stiff competition from Loose Women, The Chase and The Repair Shop to win the most viewer votes, with Phil and Holly looking visibly moved by the show of support.

As the pair headed backstage they were approached by a member of the press in a video that has since gone viral.

"Phil do you think this vindicates you for queue-gate?" the presenter was asked.

A grinning Phil swiftly replied: "We are so grateful to our amazing viewers.

"We love them," he added, before walking off.

As he accepted the statuette in front of a star-studded crowd at Wembley Arena, Phil seized the opportunity to thank fans for their loyal support.

"Don’t think we ever get complacent and please don’t think we ever take this for granted. This means so much to us every year, especially this year. We have the most amazing team. I have the best friend, we have the best boss."

It comes as the pairs actions was criticised following claims they skipped the queue for the Queen’s lying in state but instead ITV producers said they were acting in a 'professional capacity' like other world media.

But the pair put the media storm behind them as they dressed to impress for the National Television Awards before Phil appeared to be to holding back tears as they were announced as winners.

Mum-of-three Holly looked equally as surprised and pleased as she pulled her hug her co-star into a celebratory embrace.

Holly, 41, was also spotted hugging Alison Hammond who had not long missed out on a solo award for TV Presenter.

But while their fellow TV stars applauded it has been reported that the crowd around them audibly booed as the programme was named the winner for the fifth year in a row, reports The Manchester Evening News
