Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby under fire for taking selfie with Boris Johnson

Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby have come under fire on social media after taking a selfie with Prime Minister Boris Johnson .

The This Morning hosts took the controversial photo after interviewing the Conservative Party's leader on the ITV show.

Mr Johnson was questioned about the comments he had made about Muslims and single mums, Mirror Online reports.

However, many viewers were left unhappy when the selfie emerged on Twitter, especially with Mr Johnson failing to arrange an interview with BBC's Andrew Neil.

One angry commenter said: "Shame on you @thismorning.

"You would probably let him get away with murder. No wonder he chose to have an interview by you over one by @afneil."

Another said: "Did they take this before Phil grilled BoJo on the Tory record of austerity and made him apologise for Islamaphobia in the Conservative Party?"

Host Holly Willoughby asked the Prime Minister about a column he wrote in 1995, in which he said single mums were producing a generation of "ill-raised, ignorant, aggressive and illegitimate children."

Mr Johnson replied: "I don't think this is the time to talk about articles that were written a long time ago."

The hosts also asked for Mr Johnson's "absolute, rock solid guarantee" that "no part of the NHS will be sold off."

Mr Johnson said it would not.
