Phillip Schofield has opened up about an awkward interview with Prince Phillip, in which the Duke of Edinburgh called him an "idiot".
During This Morning today, hosts Phillip and Holly Willoughby paid tribute to Prince Phillip on his 99th birthday today.
Following a discussion with the ITV programme's royal editor Camilla Tominey, Phil spoke about his own encounter with the Duke of Cambridge.
He had met up with Prince Phillip during the 60th anniversary of the Duke of Edinburgh Award.
Phil had been about to carry out a wing walk in tribute when he interviewed the prince.
"You can’t ask him questions about himself because he won’t talk about himself," Phil explained.
He went on to reveal that the Duke of Edinburgh had a surprise in store during his wing walk.
Phil said: "As I told him I’d done the wing walk we chatted about that for a bit, someone said to me in the crew, ‘he’s beckoning you over."
The host recalled Prince Phillip saying: "I wanted to introduce you to this man. He’s jumping out of it [a plane], you’re walking on top of it.
“Thought it’d introduce two idiots together."
During the interview, Phil told the Duke of Edinburgh: "I agreed to do a challenge, sir, for the awards themselves - I’m going to do a wing walk."
As Prince Phillip commented "really?", Phil replied: "Yes, for you sir."
The Duke of Edinburgh continued: "Who is trying to get rid of you?"
