Phillip Dorsett talks role in offense, Wilson-Brady comparison

New Seattle Seahawks receiver Phillip Dorsett II was all smiles while speaking to the media on Friday.

“I’m just having fun,” he said at several different times, especially when speaking of his relationships with the rest of the wide receiver group. “We have a lot of fun in the Zoom meetings and on the field… we joke around a lot.”

On Thursday, coach Pete Carroll described Dorsett as “the fastest guy we’ve ever had here” during the former’s tenure with the Seahawks, also stating that the team is designing new plays that better incorporate the kind of speed that Dorsett reaches. Dorsett himself believes that he offers much more than that to Seattle’s offense.

“I always consider myself not just a deep threat, (but) a guy that can get in and out of my breaks and my cuts,” he said. “Hopefully, I can be able to show that more and more in this offense.”

Dorsett also spent plenty of time talking about Russell Wilson, drawing a specific comparison between him and his former QB, Tom Brady (“They’ve just got that ‘it’ factor”) while also praising Wilson’s “easy, catchable” deep passes and his “ultimate competitor” mentality. The two spent some time working out together over the offseason, building a rapport that was easily rekindled once the on-field portion of training camp started.

Overall, Dorsett’s time in Seattle thus far seems to have made quite the positive impression on him, which is what he was hoping for once they came calling during free agency. “It didn’t take much once I knew the Seahawks were interested,” he said. “It was an easy decision for me.”

If that signing continues to be as mutually beneficial as it appears thus far, Seahawks fans may well see an extension on Dorsett’s contract before the end of the season.
