Phillip and Holly slam police chiefs for 'banning' officers doing TikTok videos and viewers agree

Police bosses were widely criticised on This Morning after reports of them banning officers from doing TikTok videos.

TikTok has been THE trend of lockdown so far with people of all ages and all walks of life sharing hilarious videos on social media and many key workers have got in the action to try and boost morale amongst colleagues and the mood of the nation during this uncertain times.

But, speaking at the weekend, Chief Constable Gavin Stephens, the national lead for digital engagement, warned police officers against doing them

He told The Mail on Sunday: ‘From a National Police Chiefs Council point of view, we’ve been very clear, particularly through Covid, that we’re not encouraging people to take part in dancing, rapping TikTok challenges.’

Chief Constable Andy Cooke, of Merseyside Police, said his officers could even face misconduct investigations over the videos, adding that such such behaviour is "wholly unprofessional."

And, after showing viewers' clips of some officers in uniform doing the much-copied 'Blinding Lights' TikTok, Phillip, Holly and guests Matthew Wright and Michelle Gayle slammed police chiefs for their negative stance on the videos.

Michelle said: "That is an awful, awful thing to say. TikTok has given us some much needed light relief."

Holly agreed with her and Matthew blasted: "That guy is the lead for digital engagement - if he thinks they can engage with people with miserable, stern messages all the time he's sadly mistaken."

Phillip added: "It's a mistake...we want to see the fun side!" before Holly ranted: "If they thought for a second that it would impact on their work hey wouldn't do it."

Viewers agreed too, with one tweeting: "did you just say police no longer to do tiktok for fudgesake if they cant let off a bit of stress and steam what can they do? the one who's told them to stop needs a chill pill and to get a life," and another reacted: "Ive no problem with the #Police & #NHSheroes having a bit of fun now and then , they are under a lot of pressure at the moment and a little bit of #TikTok might be the only normality they have right now ."
