Phillip and Holly's This Morning absence startles viewers as Alison and Dermot host

This Morning viewers were left puzzled on Tuesday as Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby were missing in action when the show returned to screens.

Other than when they were on ITV on Christmas Day in a pre-recorded festive special, Phillip and Holly haven't been on This Morning since the middle of December.

And, while it is tradition for them to take a break over the school holidays, fans were fully expecting to see them back in the studio on Tuesday.

Neither of them mentioned anything on their respective social media channels about not being back in action, so it came as surprise when it wasn't them, but Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary who welcomed viewers to the first This Morning live show of 2022.

Alison and Dermot kicked things off by talking about how they spent Christmas, with Dermot quizzing his co-host on what it was like to spend Christmas Day with Josie Gibson.

But, while they were happily chatting away about the festivities, viewers were taking to Twitter in numbers to express their shock at Phillip and Holly being absent.

One fumed: "Where is Phillip and Holly? not watching #thismorning now that I know it’s Alison and Dermot. I’d rather watch paint dry!" to which another fan replied: "So would I!!"

Equally annoyed, a second wrote: "Was really looking forward to seeing Phillip and Holly on @thismorning and to seeing Spin To win again!!!" and a third reacted: "Phillip and Holly still on their Christmas hols well like me then"

Other viewers were keen for Vernon Kay to get another shot as main host, while there were many Alison and Dermot fans happy to see them at the helm once again.
