Pat Neshek was the Phillies' most sought-after trade chip, and he has found a new home.
The Phillies, after Wednesday's game, traded Neshek to the Colorado Rockies for three low-level minor leaguers _ a starter, a reliever and a shortstop. Neshek will head to Denver and pitch in a contender's bullpen while the Phillies opened a spot in their relief corps for a younger pitcher.
In return, the Phillies received right-handers Alejandro Requena and J.D. Hammer and shortstop Jose Gomez. All three were playing in Single-A ball. Requena and Gomez are 20. Hammer is 23.
Gomez was hitting .324 with a .374 on-base percentage. Requena had a 2.85 ERA in 19 starts with 97 strikeouts and 25 walks. Hammer, a reliever, was promoted in June to High-A Lancaster. He has a 2.36 ERA this season with 65 strikeouts and 14 walks in 42 innings.
The Phillies paid an undisclosed portion of Neshek's remaining salary to gain a better prospect package in return.
