Philips baby monitors recalled after being deemed potential fire hazard

Electronics company Philips is recalling seven of its digital video baby monitors over fire hazard concerns.

The company has said the move is voluntary and they are taking the action as a "precaution".

A statement on the company's website says: "In very rare cases, the battery in the parent unit can overheat while plugged into the electrical connection. This poses a potential fire hazard."

The seven monitors they are recalling are in the SCD620 series. They are:

SCD620/79

SCD620/78

SCD620/93

SCD620/52

SCD620/26

SCD620/05

SCD620/01

The monitors were produced between January 2016 and March 2018.

To identify is your baby monitor is one of the ones affected you will find the product type number printed on the bottom of the parent unit of the baby monitor.

The serial number starts with TM followed by a number and letter. The serial number can be found on a sticker printed on the bottom of parent unit.

Affected devices have serial numbers that start with the following 4 digits:
 

  • TM5A YYWWXXXXXX
  • TM5B YYWWXXXXXX
  • TM5C YYWWXXXXXX
