Where have we heard this story before? Newspaper readership is declining in the Philippines, according to the country's retailers' association. Raymund Mercado, a spokesman for the Newspaper and Magazine Dealers Association (MDAP), reports that readership is declining by 10% a year, that fewer young people are buying papers and that older people are getting their news from the net or TV. He thinks cost is also a factor in the downward trend. "If this problem is not arrested we will see newspapers out of the street in 10 years," he said. (Via sunstar.com.ph)
