Philippe Coutinho to Newcastle odds slashed following spate of bets

Odds have tumbled on Philippe Coutinho returning to the Premier League, with Newcastle and Chelsea touted as two of the most likely destinations by bookies.

The Brazilian has been linked with a move to St James' Park as part of the current takeover, with the former Liverpool man seen as a potential marquee signing for Amanda Staveley and Co once the deal gets the green light from the Premier League.

However, there is likely to be plenty of interest in his services, with Coutinho set to leave Barcelona following a patchy loan move to Bayern Munich.

Two major British bookies, Sky Bet and Unibet, have cut odds on him joining Newcastle from a lofty 66/1 into 6/4, with money continuing to be placed on the move.

At 6/4, that means bookmakers are predicting a 40% chance that the Brazilian dons the black-and-white stripes next season.

In the last 24 hours, 61% of all bets on Coutinho’s next club have backed Newcastle, with 22% of all bets over the last week backing the transfer.

Other bookmakers in the UK are offering longer prices on the transfer, with 888SPORT and Paddy Power both going 10/1 on the transfer.

The best price of 12/1 is available with Bet Victor on the move happening.

Chelsea are the current favourites to sign Coutinho at 5/4 best price, followed by any German club at 3/1.

Tottenham follow next in the market at 8/1, followed by Liverpool (8/1), Leicester (9/1), Manchester United (10/1) and Arsenal (16/1).

Oddschecker spokesperson Callum Wilson: "The pattern is emerging: Newcastle United are about to be linked with everyone under the sun.

"Philippe Coutinho is the latest star seemingly destined for St James' Park, and with immeasurable riches soon to be at the Magpies' disposal, it's too early to count this one out just yet."
