Philippe Coutinho to Chelsea: The Blues players who would be most affected by summer transfer

There is no doubt that Frank Lampard will be hoping to add some attacking threat at Chelsea if he is able to in the summer transfer window.

The Blues are one of the highest in the Premier League for chances created and shots, but have often failed to put them away on several occasions.

It means that the Blues will have been linked with several players over the course of the window, and the strongest so far has been Philippe Coutinho from Barcelona.

But if the Blues do make a loan switch for the 27-year-old Brazilian, then which current Chelsea players would be most affected?

Mason Mount

Mason Mount has shown his versatility this season by playing wide left, on the left of three in midfield and also in the number 10 role.

Those are the positions where Coutinho, if the Blues do make a move for him, that he would be expected to play in.

Mount has had an impressive first season in the Chelsea’s first team, and any move for Coutinho could shift around the England international’s role.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek

The 2019/20 campaign has been a difficult one for Loftus-Cheek as he looked to recover from his serious Achilles’ tendon rupture.

When the 24-year-old does eventually return to action, there is a question mark about where his best position might be.

The number 10 role could work well for the England international, while he has been used out wide as well or in a midfield three.

A move for Coutinho would also affect the way that Loftus-Cheek is used and moved around the squad.

Callum Hudson-Odoi

After signing his new five-year deal, it hasn’t quite been the introduction to the first team, having recovered from his long-term injury but then suffering another set-back.

However, the winger is going to be a long-term project and there is going to be some patience on his part, and he could certainly learn from the Brazilian.

With Ziyech coming in, plus Pulisic looking to push for more time, it means Hudson-Odoi’s playing time could be affected.

Ross Barkley

Ross Barkley has struggled for regular game time since making the switch to Chelsea from Everton.

The England international has shown flashes of what he can do, but he has not had the consistency of minutes and it’s likely that would go down further if Coutinho did make the move.

The 26-year-old could well make a move away from Stamford Bridge if the right price does come in for him.

Christian Pulisic

It has been a strange first season for Christian Pulisic, who has was left out of the side throughout the whole September.

However, when he finally got his chance he impressed, before the American suffered an injury which kept him out of action for several weeks.

Pulisic is set to play a big part of Chelsea’s future, but if Coutinho comes in then the winger’s game time could be affected slightly.

Conor Gallagher

Gallagher has been one of the most impressive loanees for Chelsea this season, having decent spells at Charlton Athletic and Swansea City.

There is a chance that Gallagher could come back to the Blues and be part of the first team, with Lampard having been impressed by his time away.

However, a short-term move for Coutinho could change that and the youngster might be sent out on loan once again, this time to a Premier League side.
