Philippe Coutinho sends Liverpool a Champions League warning

Philippe Coutinho said he hopes Bayern Munich overcome Liverpool in Europe because he'd love to win the Champions League.

The Brazilian midfielder left Liverpool in search of European success in January 2018, putting pen to paper with Barcelona in a transfer worth £142million.

Just 18 months later Coutinho found he had fallen down the pecking order in Spain and was unceremoniously shipped out on loan to Bayern Munich.

Liverpool, meanwhile, reached the final of the Champions League in the season Coutinho left and then went one better by winning the competition the following campaign.

Coutinho was recently asked about his ambitions this season, and whether he'd be happy to overcome Liverpool in Europe.

Speaking to SportBild via Sport Witness, Coutinho said: "I hope so.

"My dream is to win the championship, the DFB-Pokal and the Champions League. No matter who we play against. I just want to help the team."

Coutinho has represented Bayern Munich twice in two convincing wins since his summer move from Barcelona.

In the first match Bayern thumped Schalke 3-0 before they then battered Mainz 6-1. Coutinho is yet to get on the scoresheet for the German side.
