Philippe Coutinho reacts to Arsenal offer after being unused sub in friendly

Philippe Coutinho reportedly has no desire to join Arsenal on loan this summer, and is instead determined to stay and fight for his place at Barcelona .

The Brazilian was an unused substitute as Barca came from a goal down to beat Arsenal in the Joan Gamper Trophy friendly clash at the Nou Camp on Sunday evening.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang gave the Gunners the lead in the first half in Catalonia, and Unai Emery's side managed to hold on to that advantage until half-time.

But Barca came back in the second period, and after a comical own goal from Ainsley Maitland-Niles levelled the scores, a last minute strike from Luis Suarez won the game for the hosts.

Coutinho was one of 17 substitutes named by Barca boss Ernesto Valverde for the match, but despite Valverde making 11 changes in the match he didn't come on.

And Mundo Deportivo claim that the former Liverpool man has no interest in leaving Catalonia on loan this summer, thereby ruling out a switch to the Gunners and a return to the Premier League.

Lionel Messi was another who didn't make it onto the pitch to face the Gunners, and as is tradition after the Gamper Trophy match, he made a declaration to the home crowd after the game.

Messi infamously promised Barca fans Champions League success last summer before things went wrong in the semi-final against Liverpool, but he insisted he didn't regret those words.

“It's hard to say something after last season, but I don't regret anything," he said.

"I say the same. I trust these players and this coaching staff.

"The last season ended up being a bit bitter, but we must give value to what was achieved, the eighth league in 11 years.

"That would be great for any club. It may not be given the value it deserves but it will be seen over time."
