Philippe Coutinho makes decision on future amid Man Utd interest

Philippe Coutinho has dealt a blow to Europe’s top clubs, insisting he has no plans to quit to Spain.

The Barcelona star has been linked with a move to PSG , Manchester United and Chelsea this summer.

Coutinho said: “This is my second season here. I have won titles but I am always an ambitious and demanding player. So, I want more and more. But I’m happy. I wanted to play in Spain and I’m at the best club in Spain.”

Coutinho was even more clear when asked if a trip to Old Trafford next week could rekindle his love of playing in England again in future.

“My head is exclusively in Barcelona,” Coutinho insisted. “Returning to England now does not fit into my plans.”

Coutinho has made 28 La Liga appearances for Barcelona this season, scoring five goals, but has fallen down the pecking order at the Nou Camp.

When he joined Barcelona from Liverpool for £142million in January 2018, the Catalan club promised the Brazilian midfielder he would be their long-term replacement for club legend Andres Iniesta.

At the time Coutinho was being deployed in a deep-lying central role for Liverpool and, despite having previously played as a winger, looked at home in the middle of the park.

But since then he has been shifted out wide to compete with the much faster Ousmane Dembele for a place on the wing, and has struggled to shine.

That led to him being linked with a move back to the Premier League and Manchester United.

But it seems he is now happy to stay and fight for his place in the Barcelona team.
