It took Philippe Coutinho less than twenty minutes to make his mark in his first ever World Cup match, as he opened the scoring against Switzerland with a sensational curling shot from 25 yards.
The Barcelona man was selected to start alongside fellow attackers Willian, Neymar and Gabriel Jesus, as Brazil looked to open their campaign with a win.
And it did not take Coutinho long to make an impression. He pounced upon a cleared Marcelo cross, bringing the ball under control with an exquisite first touch before unleashing a right-footed curled effort that hit the inside of the far post and flew in.
It was a historic moment for the 26-year-old former Liverpool player.
Coutinho was making his first World Cup start, having made his international debut in 2010 but then being left out of the Brazil side that played in the 2014 World Cup.
The game against Switzerland also marked the first time that Coutinho and Neymar have played together at a World Cup since 2009.
The two superstars played together at the 2009 U17 World Cup, when they crashed out in the group stage.
