Philipp Lahm sends Harry Kane transfer message amid Manchester United interest

Bayern Munich icon Philipp Lahm has urged Manchester United target Harry Kane to sign for the Bundesliga giants this summer amid concrete transfer interest from Old Trafford.

Having allowed Cristiano Ronaldo to leave mid-season, United bided their time to find a long-term replacement after signing Wout Weghorst on loan during the January window. Since then, Kane has been earmarked as a prime target in their search for a long-term frontman.

However, with the England captain only having 15 months left to run on his contract, there are bound to be further enquiries made as Tottenham consider their options amid what could be their last chance to cash in. Bayern have been tipped to come calling.

Robert Lewandowski swapped the Allianz Arena for Catalan side Barcelona last summer and the Bundesliga champions have yet to replace the Poland captain. According to Lahm, though, there is only one striker who might be capable and available in the current market.

Speaking about Kane during an interview with Sky Sports, the former Germany player said: "Harry Kane is a game-changing centre-forward, a clear No.9 but also with technical skills. He's a very good striker and I think he would really be an outstanding fit for Bayern Munich.

"In this position, Bayern has always had very good international strikers, like Robert Lewandowski, so we will see. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens."

Having progressed through the Tottenham ranks, Kane has become the all-time leading scorer for club and country over the last two months. He also has the record Premier League tally in his sights with just 56 goals needed for him to match Alan Shearer at the pinnacle (260 goals).
