Ferran Torres and Rodri can go onto have careers matching the finest Spanish players of the previous generation, according to Philipp Lahm.
The former World Cup winner has been impressed with what he saw from the Spain team at the European Championship who were knocked out on penalties by Italy at the semi-final stage, and reserved particular praise for two Manchester City players.
Torres caught the eye after coming back into the team for the knockout games, although Rodri was generally used from the bench; City defender Aymeric Laporte also played after switching his allegiance from France.
Having watched them closely in the tournament, ex-German international Lahm suggested Torres and Rodri could go on to have terrific careers.
"Spain were the most ball-playing team of the tournament and had outstanding footballers, as they have done in so many tournaments," Lahm wrote in the Guardian.
"There is a high probability that Pedri, Dani Olmo, Ferran Torres, Rodri or Mikel Oyarzabal will follow in the footsteps of Xavi, Andrés Iniesta, Xabi Alonso or Fernando Torres."
Both players can expect to be integral to Pep Guardiola's plans at City next season when they return after a rest. The manager blocked their callups to the Spain squad for the Olympic Games that are coming up as he does not want their workload to be too much ahead of another hectic schedule.
Torres could also be used in the centre-forward role that he has played at times over the last 12 months, particularly if City are unable to sign Erling Haaland or Harry Kane this summer to replace Sergio Aguero.
