Philip Schofield says Matt Hancock's 'one parent at a time' lockdown rule is 'utterly bonkers' during heated row on This Morning

Philip Schofield hit out at Matt Hancock for telling the public they can see one parent at a time - branding his guidance as "utterly bonkers".

The Health Secretary appeared on ITV's This Morning, when hosts Phil and Holly quizzed the senior minister on the government's new lockdown rules.

Philip repeatedly confronted and questioned Matt Hancock during the interview, which soon became quite heated.

The pair clashed when the TV presenter discussed the new lockdown rule that says Brits can meet up with people from outside their household, as long as they stick to social distancing restrictions.

“It is a mental health thing." Philip said. “When you look at family, I can understand the regulations very clearly with social distance.

“When it comes to parents, we’ve been separated for such a long time.”

Matt Hancock replied back by insisting that it would be possible to see both, which prompted Philip to ask: "Does that mean I can see my parents ten minutes part?"

"Yeah as long as it's only one at a time that's fine". Mr Hancock said.

Visibly frustrated, Philip then fired back: "Don’t you see that that’s utterly bonkers?”

To which Mr Hancock said: "No, we don’t want large groups gathering.

"You’ve got to set a line somewhere.

"I think people understand we’ve made a balanced judgement.

"I totally get the yearning to see one’s loved ones."

Later on in the interview, the senior minister also revealed that summer holidays will be cancelled this year and that the public aren't likely to be able to go away again until 2021.

When Phil and Holly asked whether summer would essentially be cancelled, Matt Hancock told them he thinks "that’s likely to be the case.

"I think it’s unlikely that big lavish international holidays are going to be possible for this summer."
