Indianapolis Colts quarterback Philip Rivers announced early Wednesday morning that he would be retiring after 17 seasons in the NFL. Rivers can now wait five years to be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Rivers’ retirement marks the second of the big three to hang up their cleats from the 2004 NFL draft class. Eli Manning retired at the end of the 2019 season and his time for the HOF will come as well.
This leaves just Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger as the third of when will go down in history as one of the best quarterback classes of all time. And it does make you wonder if this move will have any influence on Roethlisberger’s decision about whether to play in 2021 or not.
At the end of the season, Roethlisberger said he wasn’t ready to think about retirement yet but this has to give him one more thing to consider as he moves forward with his HOF career.
