Philip Rivers led QBs in passing yards under pressure in 2019

There are likely many reasons veteran quarterback Philip Rivers decided to sign with the Indianapolis Colts this offseason. Working behind an elite offensive line was probably among the top reasons.

It is widely known that the offensive line protecting Rivers during the 2019 season with the Los Angeles Rams was nothing short of porous. He was under pressure constantly and even though he isn’t the most mobile quarterback in the league, Rivers still made the most of his opportunities.

The 38-year-old quarterback led the NFL in passing yards under pressure during the 2019, per Pro Football Focus.

Fortunately for Rivers, he shouldn’t be under the same rate of pressure as he was in 2019. The Colts offensive line is one of the best in the league when it comes to protecting the quarterback.

Rivers also recorded nine passing touchdowns while under pressure, per PFF, which was seventh-most in the NFL—six players were tied with 10 touchdowns.

The Colts will focus their offense on giving Rivers time while featuring the rushing attack, but it’s nice to know that he can still get it done under pressure.
