Philip Rivers ‘already calling guys to throw’ in Indy

The new quarterback for the Indianapolis Colts has arrived in the Circle City.

38-year-old Philip Rivers and his family are officially in Indianapolis to prepare for the month break and eventually training camp on July 28, barring a change.

Head coach Frank Reich told reporters Monday that Rivers is already calling his new teammates to get together and throw.

“Yeah, absolutely it is. I know he’s doing that. He’s here now. He’s in Indy now. He’s moved here to Indy,” Reich said. “His family – all nine children, they are all here. They’re swimming in pools in Indianapolis and making new friends and really looking forward to being a part of the Indianapolis community. I know he’s already calling guys to throw.”

The Colts are at the end of their virtual offseason this week and won’t be together at all until they are set to return for training camp, assuming that is still on track for the end of July.

Every offseason is tough for players joining a new team, but this offseason is likely even tougher for those doing so because of the restrictions that hit the league. But fortunately, Rivers is already taking control of the meeting rooms and his experience in the league makes up for the time away from his new team.

“Relationships take time to build, so Philip (Rivers) is new to the equation and Jacob (Eason) is new to the equation, but because Philip has 16, 17 years of experience it doesn’t take long to see and feel his presence,” said Reich.

The Colts will be wrapping up their virtual offseason this week before the summer break, but don’t be surprised to hear Rivers getting some work in with his new teammates that are in the area.
