Philadelphia Inquirer cuts 17% of editorial staff

And the other great "old media" drama in the US is being played out at the Philadelphia Inquirer, which is to make 68 journalists redundant, 17% of the paper's editorial staff. After the news was announced editor William Marimow said: "It's a very difficult day for the Inquirer... and handle this with professionalism, dignity, thoughtfulness and care." The paper was bought six months ago by a business group, Philadelphia Media Holdings, led by public relations and advertising executive Brian Tierney. (Via Philadelphia Daily News)
