Philadelphia Eagles Extend Devonta Smith's Contract Through 2028 Season

DeVonta Smith signed a three-year contract extension with the Eagles.

The Philadelphia Eagles made a significant move on Monday by agreeing to a three-year contract extension with wide receiver DeVonta Smith, keeping him with the team through the 2028 season. As part of the deal, the Eagles exercised the fifth-year option on Smith's contract for the 2025 season.

Smith, a standout player who won the Heisman Trophy in 2020 and contributed to two national championships during his time at Alabama, has been a key player for the Eagles since joining the team. In his three seasons with the Eagles, Smith has amassed impressive stats, including 240 receptions for 3,178 yards and 19 touchdowns.

The contract extension for Smith is reported to be worth $75 million, with $51 million guaranteed, solidifying his position as a key player for the Eagles. His standout season in 2022, where he recorded 95 catches and 1,196 yards, played a crucial role in helping the Eagles reach the Super Bowl.

Aside from the extension for Smith, the Eagles have been active in the offseason, making several key signings to bolster their roster. They added former Giants running back Saquon Barkley, as well as linebackers Bryce Huff and Zack Baun, in a bid to strengthen their lineup following a late-season collapse.

Additionally, the Eagles brought back safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson, who returned to the team after a stint in free agency. Wide receiver DeVante Parker also signed a one-year deal with a $4.69 million guarantee, while offensive lineman Matt Hennessy and former Tampa Bay linebacker Devin White joined the team on new contracts.

Furthermore, the Eagles secured deals with kicker Jake Elliott, Pro Bowl guard Landon Dickerson, and defensive end Brandon Graham, ensuring that key players remain with the team. The departures of Jason Kelce and Fletcher Cox, who retired, have left the Eagles with just four players remaining from their 2017 Super Bowl-winning season.

Overall, the Eagles' offseason moves signal a commitment to building a competitive team for the upcoming season, with a focus on retaining key players and adding talent to strengthen their roster.
