Phil Schofield shuts down flat earther who claims ISS is showing CGI pictures of our planet

This Morning viewers were left furious after one guest appeared to argue his theory for believing that the Earth is flat.

Mark Sargent, a filmmaker and writer, says that people need to "wake up" and see that there is "no proof" that the Earth is round.

Phil shut down the flat earther who claimed the ISS was showing 'CGI' pictures (ITV)

Appearing on the show, he said: “It’s not [round] because we can’t prove it’s a globe.

“Everybody in the Flat Earth community starts out by saying ‘can you prove it?’”

The theorist was immediately shut down by Phil Schofield, who said: “I was lucky enough to fly in Concorde, and you get up to 65,000 feet, and I could see the curvature of the Earth. That was proof to me.”

But Mark hit back at the claim saying: “And yet I could show you weather balloon footage from 120,000 feet and it’s absolutely table top flat. Neil De grass Tyson, the world’s most famous scientist, will come out and tell you that no civilian will ever be able to see the curvature of the Earth.”

The flat earther said that he believes the planet is surrounded by an 'ice wall' (ITV)

Holly then asked the guest if he was accusing Phil of lying, to which he said: “No. I’m not saying that you’re lying, I’m saying that you wanted to see the curvature. There’s a big difference.”

The flat earther was then shown live pictures from the International Space Station, which he put down to being "CGI".

Phil said: “That’s live pictures from the space station now. That’s all a lie?”

Mark replied: “Again, started from the American military.

“You’re looking at CGI, nothing more. Something that started out very simple back in the 1950s and advanced till today.”

This Morning viewers took to Twitter during the interview, and fans were all saying the same thing.

One said: “Why am I sitting here and listening to this fruitcake on #ThisMorning.”

Another wrote: “Why is this idiot getting airtime? #ThisMorning.”

“Why the **** would NASA and the American government be spending billions of pounds to pretend the Earth is a globe....what ******* reason is there!? Seriously man! Get a grip #ThisMorning,” ranted a third viewer.

Another angry viewer said: “Why are you giving this idiot airtime?”

“So how come nobody has come across these so called ice walls #thismorning,” tweeted another viewer.
