Phil Parkinson the leading contender for Doncaster Rovers job

Phil Parkinson is the leader contender for the vacant managerial position at Doncaster Rovers, according to reports.

According to the Football Insider, Parkinson is the 'leading contender' to takeover at the LNER Stadium after Darren Moore's departure to join Sheffield Wednesday.

The former Sunderland manager was sacked at the Stadium of Light in November last year with the Black Cats five points off the automatic promotion places.

The former Charlton Athletic, Bradford City and Bolton Wanderers boss has been linked with a number of high profile jobs in League One since leaving the managerial hot seat on Wearside.

After winning their first two games under caretaker manager Andy Butler, Rovers' form has nosedived which has seen them fall out of the play-off places.

Rovers have lost their last five games on the bounce and are now in 12th place, eight points off the play-off places.
