Phil Parkinson gives transfer update and confirms Josh Scowen is in line to make Sunderland debut

Sunderland boss Phil Parkinson has confirmed new signing Josh Scowen will travel with the Black Cats squad for tomorrow's League One clash with Tranmere.

Scowen joined the club from QPR on Monday evening for an undisclosed fee and will give Parkinson an extra option in midfield following Dylan McGeouch's departure.

The 26-year-old has won promotion from League One while at Barnsley and Parkinson was delighted to get the deal over the line in time for him to make the trip to Prenton Park.

"I am very pleased with the signing of Josh," Parkinson told reporters.

"He has got promoted from this level and has a lot of Championship games under his belt. He is a good age, can play a number of roles in midfield, he's a good signing and will go straight into the squad for Wednesday."

Parkinson was also quizzed about transfers during his pre-match press briefing.

When asked whether Sunderland would add to the January additions of Scowen, Kyle Lafferty and Bailey Wright, Parkinson replied: "Yeah, possibly.

"We had to work hard to get Josh. At the start of the window he was one we identified but like I explained with Bailey Wright, it takes time.

"There is a possibility of another signing but we will only bring one in if it is someone we feel will help us."

In terms of outgoings, Parkinson said there was 'nothing concrete' at the moment but revealed they have received some enquiries for Republic of Ireland international winger Aiden McGeady.

"At the moment, there is nothing concrete," Parkinson added.

"A lot of teams have got games tonight or tomorrow like ourselves so we expect it to quieten down in the next 24 hours and then pick up speed on Thursday.

"At the moment, there has been one or two enquiries [for McGeady] but nothing definite yet. We are hopeful something could happen."
