Phil Neville names his dream Manchester United team for next season

Manchester United have turned a corner in the last few months but still have some way to go before challenging for the Premier League title again.

Former United defender Phil Neville, in fact, believes the Red Devils must sign five players this summer to get back on track.

Not only has Neville listed the positions that United need to target, he’s come up with the names of the players who his old side should attempt to acquire.

Neville was speaking with Premier League Today when he revealed the quintet of stars United need, while he also ran through his ideal XI for the club when next season rolls around.

The five players United must sign according to Neville include Gareth Bale (Real Madrid), Philippe Coutinho (Barcelona), Eric Dier (Spurs), Raphael Varane (Real Madrid) and Joao Cancelo (Juventus).

“Gareth Bale is ready-made,” Neville explained as he went through reasons why United should push to get the five players on the aforementioned list.

“I don’t think wages are an issue at Manchester United. You are talking guaranteed quality who can play across the front line.

“The two signings in the back four would be Raphael Varane from Real Madrid and Joao Cancelo from Juventus. Cancelo, I worked with him at Valencia and have seen him at Juventus and I think he’s top drawer.”

Neville also explained his reasons for naming Dier and Coutinho as players the club have to land.

“Eric Dier as the holding midfield player and Philippe Coutinho, who there has been a bit of speculation about,” Neville added. “You have to have British players in a title-winning team.”

Neville’s ideal United XI for 2019/20: De Gea, Dalot, Varane, Linedelof, Shaw, Pogba, Dier, Coutinho, Bale, Rashford, Martial.
