Phil Neville issues David Beckham plea following crisis visit and Inter Miami turnaround

Phil Neville has issued a plea to David Beckham following his crisis visit and Inter Miami's subsequent upturn in form.

Manager Neville wants to close the airports and not allow co-owner Beckham to go home thanks to his impact on results.

The MLS side had lost six games on the trot before their mid-season turnaround, capped by Saturday's convincing win over Toronto.

Neville's men claimed a 3-1 home win to make it two successive wins for the first time in the new campaign and put themselves five points off the play-off spots.

Although star man Rodolfo Pizarro scored twice to continue his fine run of form, it was co-owner Beckham's presence which the former England Women's manager picked out, and for good reason.

Miami have lost just once in their last seven games, that being a 2-0 defeat at the hands of New York City when the former Manchester United and Real Madrid superstar missed the match.

"His is presence in and around is massive," Neville said of Beckham when speaking to The Miami Herald.

"We're going to ban him from going home to England. He needs to get his green card as soon as possible.

"We're going to close all airports in Florida because the longer he's here, we keep winning."

Not only has Beckham's presence helped the team, it seems the easing of Covid-19 restrictions has, too.

Having previously only being able to sit down in pairs, the squad can mix at meal times in large groups, something Neville believes is helping with their team spirit.

"The players are spending more time together, committing to each other and you can see that on the field," explained the ex-Everton captain.

"Ultimately, you can do all the little things, but winning breeds confidence.

"That's what we've seen, that never-say-die attitude against Nashville and Chicago [both added-time victories]."

Neville added: "That comes from belief and trust in each other."

It was a much more straightforward victory over Toronto on Saturday, which he described as "outstanding."

"I thought we were in control, even when we didn't have possession, against a team, who I think, their position belies the quality of their team."

He added: "Ultimately, 3-1 doesn't do it justice as I honestly thought it could've been five or six with the chances we created.

"That's the disappointment as we got sloppy and careless with the chances we created.

"We haven't had those type of chances all season but we won the game, that's all that matters," stated Neville as he took stock ahead of a derby clash with their Florida rivals next weekend.

"We've got to recover now and go again against Orlando.

"It's just one game at a time, we can't get carried away about where we want to go or where we want to be, we've just got to take each game as it comes and there's a real hunger about the squad."
