Phil Neville fires warning to Man City and Liverpool as he makes big claim about Spurs

Phil Neville has backed Tottenham to challenge Manchester City and Liverpool for the Premier League title this season.

Spurs finished fourth in the Premier League last season and reached the final of the Champions League, where they lost out to Liverpool in Madrid.

But having strengthened this summer with the additions of Tanguy Ndombele, Jack Clarke, Giovani Lo Celso and Ryan Sessegnon, the former Manchester United and Everton player feels Spurs have got what it takes to close the gap on City and Liverpool.

“I think they can still challenge," he said, speaking as a pundit on BBC programme Match of the Day 2.

“You look back to last Christmas time when they were really in the title race and challenging, and they just fell off towards the end of the season.

“But I think that was partly down to the Champions League run and the lack of strength in depth, but he has strengthened and spent money. And I think they will challenge the top two, I really do.

“I think the signings have cemented them as a top four team, but what [Mauricio] Pochettino wants is to challenge these teams [Man City and Liverpool].

“He has got to keep hold of [Christian] Eriksen and [Jan] Vertonghen before the window closes, but if he does, I think they will do that.

“The stadium is massive, and being there could be a game changer for them."

Neville, together with fellow pundit Jermaine Jenas, added that he felt Tottenham would win a trophy this season, which Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino has cited as his personal aim for the 2019/20 campaign.
