Phil Mickelson was this close to holing a 353-yard ace on a par-4

The new 2019-20 PGA Tour season only just began, but Phil Mickelson nearly delivered what would be the shot of the year from the tee box of a 353-yard par-4 at a tournament in South Korea.

Mickelson came to the par-4 14th hole at 1-under par for the tournament after carding five consecutive pars. He attacked the flag at the drivable hole off the tee – and his ball tracked perfectly to the cup and rattled the flagstick.

Mickelson’s ball came to rest just a few inches from the hole, and he tapped in for an eagle. Mickelson said after his round that he couldn’t actually see his ball as it nearly fell, but he knew it was close by the reaction of the players on the green.

Defending champion Justin Thomas leads the field after two rounds at 13-under par, ahead of Byeong Hun An and Danny Lee at 11-under.
