Phil Mickelson missed an incredibly short putt at the U.S. Open and fans couldn’t believe it

Phil Mickelson, as you know if you’re any type of a golf fan, has never won the U.S. Open during his legendary run on the PGA Tour.

It’s the last major he needs for the career grand slam and this year would seem like maybe the last best chance for him to get it done as he’s had a lot of success at Pebble Beach over the years.

But in order for Lefty to get it done he can’t afford to make any mental mistakes, which he did during Thursday’s first round when missed a tap-in putt for par the third hole (his 12th hole of the day). The PGA Tour’s official stats had the putt at 18 inches, which is normally a no-brainer for the pros.

This was not good for Phil, who finished his round at 1-over 72:
