1) The US PGA Championship, golf’s fourth major, takes place at Baltusrol this weekend. Here’s Phil Mickelson winning there in 2005 with a backyard-style chip out of long grass. Speaking of Lefty, here’s his entire opening round from Royal Troon, where he missed a record-breaking round of 62 by half a millimetre.
2) When he’s not winning green jerseys, cycling superstar Peter Sagan enjoys recreating movies. Following his inimitable take on Grease, he’s back as Rocky, Vincent Vega and Maximus Decimus Meridius.
3) NFL’s summer training camps can be as lively as the season itself, as the excellent Hard Knocks series shows. Previous highlights include a tense training session between two Houston players, the Jets’ “king ugly” contest, and Miami quarterback Ryan Tannehill struggling with the basics. This season, the cameras will visit the Los Angeles Rams. In other US news: basebrawl!
4) Neymar tries his hand at golf – his short game is tidy enough, but the drive needs work. More athletes doing different sports with mixed results: Ronaldo throws out the first pitch at a Dodgers game, Usain Bolt tries out as a wide receiver, and it’s Phil Tufnell v Holly Willoughby in a titanic darts battle. Meanwhile: Godzilla – terrible at penalties.
5) F1 returns to Hockenheim this weekend. In 2000, Rubens Barrichello won from 17th on the grid after a disgruntled spectator ran across the track. In 1989, Ayrton Senna recorded the second of three successive wins after a race-long tussle with Alain Prost. And in 1995, Damon Hill started on pole but crashed out on the first lap, allowing one Michael Schumacher to win his first German Grand Prix.
6) This awkward exchange between Jürgen Klopp and Mamadou Sakho on Liverpool’s pre-season tour only gets worse when you realise Sakho was sent home shortly after.
Highlights from last week’s blog
1) Stevan Jovetic is a brave man to try a back-heeled finish for a Roberto Mancini team – just ask Mario Balotelli. Luckily for Jovetic, his effort for Inter Milan against Real Salt Lake came off.
2) North Melbourne’s Majak Daw gets some serious air in this contender for AFL’s Mark of the Year; and here’s a compilation of previous winners.
3) Australian V8 Supercar driver Marcos Ambrose gets overtaken by his own rear tyre.
4) Kenny Dalglish makes a touchline cameo appearance in 1980s football drama Scully.
5) Over in the Caribbean T20 Premier League, Dwayne Smith of Barbados smashes a six … straight into a fridge door.
6) And with the Champions League limping back into life, here are 10 of the best goals from last season’s competition.
