Phil Mickelson had a disastrous encounter with a net at the Arnold Palmer Invitational

Phil Mickelson got off to a solid start Thursday at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, but one bad drive midway through his round forced him to attempt a ridiculous second shot through a net.

Mickelson’s drive at the 387-yard par-4 10th hole flew over a dogleg in the fairway and came to rest on the wrong side of a net separating the course from a residential area. Unable to get free relief because the net is a boundary object, Mickelson decided to play a right-handed shot with the head of the club upside down.

Unfortunately for Mickelson, the ball got caught in the net and ended up dropping just a few inches away from where it originally was.

Phil carded a double bogey six on the hole, dropping him to 1-under par for the the tournament.
