Phil Jagielka prepares to face Everton and opens up on how he expects to feel at Goodison

Everton favourite Phil Jagielka believes his return to Goodison this weekend will feel "strange".

The former Blues' captain was released at the end of his contract in the summer having been with the club for almost 12 years.

A free agent, Jagielka returned to Sheffield United in July and could now face Everton this weekend as the newly promoted club head for Merseyside.

The 37-year-old, who made 385 appearances for the Blues, has only featured once for United since re-joining but will hope to play some part and experience Goodison as an away player.

"It will be a really strange feeling for me to go there," he said.

"I wasn't able to come back to Bramall Lane in an Everton shirt but I imagine I would have similar emotions.

"But I can't tell you what to expect or will feel emotionally. To be at the club for so long and then to go back, I presume it will be quite strange and a mixture of emotions."
