Phil Jackson's mindfulness training session was very useful for the Knicks last Saturday.
The players used that forum to express themselves and clear the air in front of coaches and the Knicks' president.
"It wasn't even arranged," Knicks coach Jeff Hornacek said. "It was just part of the mindfulness meeting that Phil does every week. Maybe not every week _ maybe every couple of weeks. It was just when that ended, a couple of guys wanted to chime in. So it wasn't anything where they said, 'Hey, let's have a meeting.' I mean they're already in the film room so they just kept talking."
The well-documented meeting happened the day after the Knicks fell behind by 27 points in a loss at Washington. Hornacek said it wasn't about the triangle offense, but that the players wanted to talk about their road struggles. It was reported that Joakim Noah and Courtney Lee spoke. Hornacek said, "Maybe just the foreign guys didn't say much but everybody else chimed in at some point.
"It was more about them stepping up. It was probably more talking about what we need to do to win on the road. It wasn't one offense or defense. It was, 'Hey when we go out on the road you got to play with a different mentality.' I thought most of the talk was really about that and having to step it up."
