Phil Foden told to remain at Man City and continue his development under Pep Guardiola

Former Manchester City defender Micah Richards believes Phil Foden should remain at the club as it is the “best place for him”.

Foden has been a member of City’s first-team squad for a number of years, but has found regular game time hard to come by.

As a result, plenty in the game have suggested that the England youth international should look to leave the Etihad on a temporary basis in order to secure more game time.

But Richards believes Foden should remain at the Etihad and continue his development under Pep Guardiola.

“I think he would be starting regularly in terms of ability,” Richards replied on BBC Sport when asked whether Foden would get into the side of a Premier League team.

“But not in terms of style of play, I don’t think Phil Foden would be suited to a team that is scrapping for relegation.

“If he was to choose a loan option or see his future elsewhere he would have to make sure he goes to the right team.

“Right now Man City is the best place for him.”
