Phil Foden tipped to be a regular Man City starter next season

Harry Redknapp believes Phil Foden can become a regular starter for Manchester City next season.

The 19-year-old picked up his second Premier League medal last season after making 26 appearances in all competitions.

Foden, an England under-21 international, netted seven goals for the Blues and became the fourth youngest English scorer in Champions League history with his strike against Schalke in the last-16.

And Redknapp believes the next step in the midfielder's development will see him break the 30-game barrier before succeeding 33-year-old David Silva at the Etihad.

"It's a hard team to break into," the former West Ham and Tottenham manager told MEN Sport in his role as ambassador for Bet Victor's #HeyHarry campaign. "He's a great talent and I think next year will be his year.

"Hopefully next year he'll get himself a starting place and we'll see him play 30-odd games next year. That's what we'd like to see.

"You hope they don't have to bring anybody in to replace David Silva. He could be the replacement."

City recorded an unprecedented treble of domestic trophies last season - retaining the league title for the first time in history - but boss Pep Guardiola has repeatedly insisted that his side will improve year-on-year.

And Redknapp believes that adding even greater strength in depth will be the key to further development.

"They're full of talent there," he explained. "You've got people like [Leroy] Sané and Gabriel Jesus who can't get in the team.

"That's what it's about, competition for places. They've got strength in depth."
